‘Delta Controls’ Underway in the 2017 Fastnet Race

At 11:00 am on the 6th of August the challenging 605-mile Rolex Fastnet Race started with Delta Controls sponsoring a team from Sweden made up of crew members from Swedish nuclear power plants sailing with the Hallstavik Yacht Club, nicknamed the Nuclear Boat.

With a long history of working with the nuclear plants in Sweden, Delta was very honored to be able to sponsor the team and have their name emblazoned on their boat.

The Team Captain Peter Westerlund from the Hallstavik Club is confident of a good finish as Peter is sailing in his 9th Fastnet race and has also taken part in the Sydney to Hobart and Round Britain race.

Follow the race on the App ‘YB Races’ – for Android and for iPhone/iPad.

The Rolex Fastnet Race

The Rolex Fastnet Race is one of the world’s oldest offshore races, but the 605 mile course represents much the same challenge today as it did to competitors 90+ years ago: Typically an upwind westbound slog along the south coast of England, then full exposure to the open Atlantic Ocean on the crossings to the Fastnet Rock (lying four miles off southwest Ireland) and back, before leaving Bishop Rock and the Scilly Isles to port, en route to the finish off Plymouth. The 2017 Rolex Fastnet Race sets sail from the Royal Yacht Squadron line to the north of Cowes at 1200 BST on 6th August.

Delta Controls’ boat is SFIDA, a 40’ Beneteau First 40 racing in Class 2 with sail number 1859 owned by Gareth Williams of PROMOCEAN – whose unique yachting achievements include being the youngest person to have completed The Whitbread Round the World race at aged only 17. Completed 14 Atlantic crossings. National and European Beneteau 40.7 Champion. Raced as pro for 20 years winning many of the major race events inc. Caribbean Ocean Racing Circuit B.V.I / Antigua Race Week near record overall win in racing class 1 / Cowes Week and A.R.C. Swan European and J Yacht world championships.
